{"id":9730,"date":"2015-10-03T03:00:16","date_gmt":"2015-10-03T03:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/megaphone.geeb.us\/?p=3651"},"modified":"2015-10-03T03:00:16","modified_gmt":"2015-10-03T03:00:16","slug":"1902-trading-cards-imagine-the-women-of-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ghost.geeb.us\/?p=9730","title":{"rendered":"1902 trading cards imagine the &#039;Women of the Future&#039;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-post-image\" src=\"http:\/\/media.boingboing.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/women-future.jpg\" alt=\"women-future\" width=\"645\" height=\"464\" \/><br \/>\nWay back in 1902, a French manufacturer released a set of trading cards designed by artist Albert Bergeret that imagined the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/fantaisiesbergeret.free.fr\/series_de_20_cartes.htm\" target=\"_blank\">women of the future<\/a>.&#8221; The cards envisioned women stepping into roles that would have seemed fantastical to most ladies at the time: doctor, lawyer, politician, firefighter, even members of the military.<br \/>\nAlthough there&#8217;s a pin-up quality to many of the images\u2014they&#8217;re showing an awful lot of <em>arm<\/em>, after all\u2014there&#8217;s something charming about this retrofuturistic attempt to expand the role of women in society, even if it was nothing but fantasy at the time. Indeed, fantasy and science fiction can often help us open our minds behind the limitations of the world we live in and <a href=\"https:\/\/boingboing.net\/2015\/04\/02\/octavias-brood.html\" target=\"_blank\">imagine a better one instead<\/a>.
